Josh is a researcher-practitioner in the areas of local government, participatory democracy, and community and regional development.
Focused on the role of local democratic institutions in the development of a vibrant civic culture, Josh's research has been widely cited internationally. His 2021 PhD Thesis, which considered the connection between local government size and citizens' political attitudes and behaviours, was awarded the Australian Political Studies Association's National Thesis Prize.
Currently working in regional South Australia, Josh has over a decade of experience working in state, local, and regional government, principally in the areas of social policy and regional economic development. In this time, Josh has been responsible for the development of policy and strategy that aims to build community prosperity and wellbeing.
When it comes to local participation, Josh tries to put his money where his mouth is, and so is active in his local service club member, historical society, and lawn bowls club.
