This policy articulates how we will manage your personal information.

This policy applies to any personal information we obtain about you in the course of our work.

1. Our actions and decisions relating to personal information are guided by the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (the Privacy Act). The APPs govern the way in which we collect, use, disclose, store, secure and dispose of your Personal Information. 2. We will seek to minimize the amount of personal information that we hold and we will take reasonable steps to store any personal information we hold safely, to protect it from misuse, loss, unauthorized access, modification or disclosure.
3. We may collect personal information for the purposes of:
a. connecting with you to engage about matters relating to democracy
b. disseminating information about our events and activities.
You may opt out of receiving communications from us at any time.
4. When we collect your personal information, we will, where appropriate and where possible, explain to you why we are collecting the information and how we plan to use it.
5. We do not use or disclose personal information for any purpose that is unrelated to the services we provide and that you would not reasonably expect (except with your consent). Your personal information may be disclosed in a number of circumstances including the following:
a. third parties where you consent to the use or disclosure; and
b. where required or authorised by law.
6. We may collect your personal information via ways that may include:
a. our website contact, subscription and feedback forms
b. registrations for events
c. responses to emails, and
d. appropriate third parties. Where your information is obtained from a third party we will endeavour to, where possible, make this clear and provide a simple way to opt out from further communications.
7. When your personal information is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was obtained, we will take reasonable steps to destroy it. If the organization is dissolved, your personal information will be destroyed.
8. You may request that we remove your personal data from our systems and we will use our best endeavours to do so.
9. At any time, you may ask us to inform you about the personal information we hold about you. Administrative fees may be payable for copies requested, but not for access requests. To protect your privacy, identification may be required before any information is released.
10. As the primary purpose of collecting your personal information is to be able to connect and communicate with you, it is important to us that your personal information is up to date. If you find that the information we have is not up to date or is inaccurate, please advise us so we can update our records and keep in contact.
11. From time to time, we may request sensitive information from you. If collected, this information will only be used for the purpose for which it is obtained or where required or authorized by law. We will explain the purpose for collecting this information if we seek it.
12. If, at any time, we experience any data breach that affects your personal information or sensitive information that is identifiably related to you, we will inform you as soon as practicable after the incident. At such a time, we will advise you what information has been lost/accessed or suspected to have been lost/accessed and we will advise you of our remedial actions.
